We collected some recurring questions here. Do you think there is anything missing? Drop us a line at hello@sparth.org.
General
What is SPARTH?
SPARTH is a 48-hour Hackathon focusing on the relation between Space and Arts through interdisciplinary work in the scope of Science and Technology. The outcomes of SPARTH are expected to be pieces, prototypes or articulated processes of art that could be exhibited.
What is a hack?
To hack is to overcome the limitations of a system – to improve, repurpose, or subvert it beyond the intentions of its original form.
What is a Hackathon?
Hack + Marathon = Hackathon
A Hackathon is an event format that brings people together for a period of creative and collaborative innovation.
How many people do we expect?
We are aiming for 30 to 50 people.
How do I join?
We will announce registration two weeks in advance. The registration process has two steps: In the first, round we stop when 50 percent of the tickets are registered. The second round will be more selective to ensure a balance between professions and gender.
Attendee
Who may attend?
Everybody can attend SPARTH. We are aiming for participants such as local artists, musicians, students, space engineers, astrophysicists, and creative technologists, but you don’t have to be any of these to participate. All you need is enthusiasm about Space, Art, and working in teams.
Do I have to pay to attend?
No. It is free to participate.
What equipment will be provided?
We will provide equipment (3D printer, laser cutter, electronics station, workshop tools) and some hardware you can work with – for example, Arduino, Raspberry Pi. Anything else you need you’ll have to bring yourself.
Do I have to pay to use the machines and tools?
Every attendee gets a voucher for 2.5 hours of machine time. You can use it at any of the available machines, like 3D printers, laser cutter, CNC mills, or workshop tools. When the time is used up you will have to pay by yourself.
What should I bring?
Everything that is helping you or the others to get inspired or to evolve and produce an idea. It’s never a bad thing to bring your laptop. If you have some tools, devices, or ideas that you always wanted to work on/with, bring it with you!
Is SPARTH competitive? Will there be prices?
There will be no judges and prizes.
Will there be food?
Yes. We will provide local vegetarian breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Is there free Wi-Fi?
Yes, of course.
Can we stay overnight?
You can but you don’t have to.
Can I start on my hack before the event?
We encourage you to take advantage of the fact that you are together with 50 other people and their ideas which you most certainly don’t know. Therefore, preferably don’t bring projects with you that you’ve been working on already for a longer time.
Can I work by myself without a team?
You can, but you’ll miss what is so great about
Pitcher
How do I find people to work on my idea?
The pitches will start on Friday evening. After this, you will have the chance to connect with people, talk about ideas, and build a team. You can start right away with discussing and hacking. Hopefully, by Saturday morning, everybody found the people to work with.
